Remote is a relatively new LA-based rock outfit. All five members aren’t exactly newcomers to the scene. Los Angeles locals Ran and Tal were first signed with RCA and then Sony/Edel releasing two records as electro-pop outfit Mankind Liberation Front. Schreiber who joined Remote in early 2004, played previously with L.A. rockers Sacrilicious and Texas-native Pipkin has been on the road touring with solo-artist Jim Bianco.
Stylistically, the Pink brothers have crafted a sound that is both old and new. "Being from L.A. we're gonna stay clear of this-meets-that type of comparisons." But influences are evident in their songwriting. Sufficed to say, Remote is more ELO than Beatles, more XTC than Radiohead. Songwriting starts with the piano and remains a key element of their live performance. As Ran and Tal share lead vocal duties, their genetically similar tones complement each other to the point where you can't always tell who sings what until you see them live.
Their October shows at the Hotel Café generated a lot of buzz that carried through their next appearances at the Room 5 Lounge, and the Joint. Remote has become a staple of Cinespace's monthly music nights. Recently, their song “Great Escape” was heard on KCRW's music program Let's Get Lost and the song "Underwater" is featured in the upcoming film, Rx starring Colin Hanks and Eric Balfour.
Birds’ Eye View was recorded in a period of two years, during that time Ran Pink, member and producer, enlisted the talents of Mellissa Kaplan Universal Hall Pass and world class trumpeter Avishai Cohen for the song “Add it Up”. Clint Bennett (Beck, Wilco) and Bryan Carrigan (Aerosmith, Seal) provided their mixing expertise to the project. The result is a well crafted collection of songs that will appeal to both mainstream and independent audiences.
With the launch of Fonogenic online label, Remote is releasing their material digitally while building a strong local base. Remote’s debut album Birds’ Eye View is now available at fonogenic.com and other selected outlets.
